While renewable energy generation is important to advance clean energy, storing it is crucial to its reliability. Eversource’ s Outer
Cape Battery Energy Storage System( BESS) in Provincetown, Massachusetts, is part of ongoing efforts to modernize the electric system and provide backup electricity during power outages. The battery is always connected to the grid, ready to provide power to around 11,000 customers within moments of an outage.
Distributed generation( DG), the production of electricity from small-scale energy conversion sources, including customer solar panels, is another integral step in supporting the energy transition. By
the end of 2023, thousands of Eversource customers had installed renewable generation sources connected to the company’ s grid, equating to more than 3700 megawatts of customer-owned renewable energy. To accelerate DG adoption, Eversource has established an industry-leading approach to equitably allocate grid upgrade costs between distribution customers and DG developers.
